What is this Project?
The Co-Curricular Transcript project, CCT for short, is a data collection project for Gordon college. The end goal is to build a system that can keep track of student involvement on the college campus.
Gordon has always been an institution that seeks to place students on the right track to discover their passion and vocation. In a world where individuals are likely to switch occupation multiple times, a liberal arts education prepares the student the most for what comes after. Part of this preparation involves encouraging students to stay active on campus through the many student-led organizations, clubs and agencies. This is nothing new, and has always been this way, but student participation has never been documented or recorded in any tangible way. This is a loss, because the student body has done a lot of notable things, sacrificed time for service and invested in various areas. The CCT project seeks to document what is already happening.
What percentage of Gordon college students are currently involved on campus? What do my current involvements say about my interests? Is there a recognizable pattern in the activities I have taken a part of? Could my past preferences give hints about future decisions? These are all general, but very interesting questions. Data that answers these questions quantitatively can say a lot about the quality of student life and the efficiency of campus programs in preparing students for life after college.
More concretely, the CCT project keeps record of your affiliations with campus activities. These records can either be entered by you, the leader of the activity you are a part of, or faculty/staff that supervise the activity. It's important to note that nothing is changing in terms of club and activity structure. All the involved parties are simply part of a hierarchal structure providing validation for your campus involvements. You can view this structure as a "Gordon-Endorsed" sticker on your campus activities. One implication is that at the end of your four years here, you will have an official report of your Co-Curricular activities that complements your academic transcript and resumé. The CCT project will provide a mobile-friendly web portal for students to manage their memberships. Students will also be able to browse available activities, join new ones and view Activity rosters. Administrative tasks like adding new members or kicking out the 'trouble-makers' can be performed by the activity's leaders. The hope is that the data gathered by our project will be the official record of student engagement at the college.
