"hello world" should be easy

In other words markup should require minimal styling hints. What's wrong with the current setup: In the current setup all content is by default way above the so called 'actionbar' outside of the visible view and headlines are by default white on a very bright background. So to make a "hello world" page one will either need to find out which classes to set or to write his own to make the "hello world" visible in the first place. This is a no go.

Labels go on top of the form field

This is a best practice for mobile devices, since mobile devices oftentimes will zoom in on an active input field. If the label is to its left, the user can not see it. This gets even worse if the device jumps from one form field to next, while filling out the form.
