  • Delete backups older than a given duration, e.g. older than one year.

  • Thin out older backups: keep only one per month of backups older than one year? (The oldest, or the newest, within that month? It needs to stay stable if this policy is repeatedly applied.)

  • Delete enough old backups to free up x MB of space?
