# New combo

*Main page: [Combo](/wiki/Beatmapping/Combo)*

**New combos** (more commonly known as *NCs*) signal the start of a new [combo](/wiki/Beatmapping/Combo). How new combos behave during gameplay depends on the currently selected [game mode](/wiki/Game_mode). They can be selected while [beatmapping](/wiki/Beatmapping) in the [beatmap editor](/wiki/Beatmap_Editor) by clicking the `New Combo` button on the right side of the `Compose` tab, or by using the shortcut `Q`. New combos are an integral part to [colourhaxing](/wiki/Beatmapping/Colourhaxing).

## osu!standard

In [osu!standard](/wiki/Game_mode/osu!), each [hit object](/wiki/Hit_object) has its own combo number and combo colour. When a new combo is started, the combo colour changes and the combo number resets to one. This counts up for each following object.

*Note: Spinners force the next hit object to start a new combo.*

## osu!catch

In [osu!catch](/wiki/Game_mode/osu!catch), each type of fruit is coloured by the currently selected combo colour. When a new combo is started, the combo colour changes. Unlike osu!standard, fruits do not have a combo number.

## Other game modes

[osu!taiko](/wiki/Game_mode/osu!taiko) and [osu!mania](/wiki/Game_mode/osu!mania) do not use new combos.

## Description

The **Nightcore** mod is a [game modifier](/wiki/Game_modifier) that works in the exact same way as it's varaint mod, Double Time, but also increases the pitch and adds a drum track to the background that—in 4/4 time—goes in the order of a bass drum on beats 1 and 3, clap on beats 2 and 4, and crash on beat 1 every 4 measures.

The [score multiplier](/wiki/Game_modifier/Score_multiplier) stays the same as it would with the Double Time mod enabled, and the beatmap itself is unaffected beyond what the Double Time mod will do.

# Normal mod

A **normal mod** (*NM*) is a [mod](/wiki/Modding) that is provided without requiring any work from the requesting creator. Normal mods are typically done to get second opinions on a [beatmap](/wiki/Beatmaps) to help improve it. Many modders use the term "NM" to distinguish it from [mod for mod](/wiki/Modding/Mod_for_mod) exchanges.

Normal mods are most commonly requested on the forums in [modding queues](https://osu.ppy.sh/community/forums/60), where modders can personalize which kind of beatmaps they want to see, and mappers can find people willing to help them improve their beatmaps.

# Nuke

**Nukes** were a [beatmap](/wiki/Beatmaps) moderation tool in the early years of osu!. Any beatmaps that were considered to be disregarding the rules (or the creator disregarding the [Code of Conduct](/wiki/Rules/Code_of_Conduct_for_Modding_and_Mapping)) could be nuked by either the [Beatmap Appreciation Team (BAT)](/wiki/Modding/Beatmap_Appreciation_Team) or the [Global Moderation Team (GMT)](/wiki/People/The_Team/Global_Moderation_Team).

When a beatmap was nuked, it would have a radioactive symbol ![](/wiki/shared/icon/nuke.gif) on its beatmap thread. This would signal other members of the BAT/GMT that it was not to be considered for [Ranked](/wiki/Beatmap_ranking_procedure#ranked) until significant changes had been made. If a beatmap made the corresponding changes, the icon would be removed and it could proceed with the [ranking process](/wiki/Beatmap_ranking_procedure).

Beatmaps could be nuked for a multitude of reasons, but the most common ones were:

- Not following the basics of the [Ranking Criteria](/wiki/Ranking_Criteria).
- Containing mistimed sections
- Containing randomly placed [hit objects](/wiki/Hit_object) on the grid and/or timeline
- Extremely challenging or unconventional beatmaps (e.g. consisting of a single [spinner](/wiki/Hit_object/Spinner)).
- Not following the [Code of Conduct](/wiki/Rules/Code_of_Conduct_for_Modding_and_Mapping).

Nukes technically still exist on the forums, but with the addition of [Modding v2](/wiki/Beatmap_Discussion) and vetoes they have effectively been replaced and have no use in the current modding system.
