Joseph says OMPI 5 can't be built with gcc 14 pre-releases. He is seeing this in builds from the tarball. Discuss warnings in general. Qunicey mentions a tool that the HDF5 project uses to capture compiler warnings. Also discuss ROMIO in this context. Its getting more and more difficult to upgrade. Definitely will fix main/5.0.x for gcc 14, but see how hard it will be to fix 4.1.x. May just not support GCC 14 with that release.
Agenda driven meeting switch over. Starting in the new year will move to an agenda driven meeting. Details still
to be worked out. Idea is if no agenda items, not hold a meeting. There will be at least one time a month (at least for a while).
Owing to timing we may switch to this in February rather than January.
Next meeting 1/9/24. Jeff will cancel ones on 12/26 and 1/2/24. He will send out new webex for CY24 to the devel core list.
Discuss release feature wiki for 5.1. Edgar has created this - https://github.com/open-mpi/ompi/wiki/5.1.x-Feature-List
Quincey suggests a time driven release process (like quarterly). Jeff says this has always been a struggle. Lengthy discussion follows.
- Joseph will open issue to track gcc 14 problems
- Need to write up the new meeting plan in a wiki.
- Set up a bot to automate solicitation for agenda topics. probably to ompi-devel-core.
- Discuss dates for an in-person meeting in CY24. Edgar offers to see if AMD Austin office can be used.
