[Researchers] Monitoring Data Using the Dashboard

Note: the dashboard is being deprecated in favor of Tableau.

For data quality monitoring, we recommend logging in 1-2 times a week and checking the study dashboard. To navigate to the study dashboard, scroll to the bottom of your study home page and click "Study Dashboard."

Here you can view data on a study-level by data stream or on a participant-level across all data streams.

We suggest clicking on one data stream (e.g., accelerometer) and checking that the data is uploading across all participants (this test study only has one active participant but you can see the other IDs below). You may notice that while each participant may not always have the same amount of data, it should be generally consistent on an individual level from day-to-day. From this level, you can see if there is a drop off of data or if data collection or upload has stopped for any specific participant.

Most Beiwe studies are configured to use Wi-Fi rather than cellular data for all data uploads. If a subject hasn't connected to a Wi-Fi network recently, the data remain buffered on the device but will not be uploaded to the back-end and hence will not appear on the dashboard. In contrast, if a study uses cellular data for data uploads, the dashboard should reflect data uploads in realtime.

If you do have a participant who has stopped uploading data or if you see data missing across the study, you can check on that individual participant by clicking on their Participant ID.

If you have data quality issues in your study for an individual participant, first follow the troubleshooting steps found here Beiwe Data Troubleshooting.

If you have data quality issues across your study (i.e. no data uploaded for any participants over multiple days OR no uploaded data for one data stream for all participants) reach out to Kenzie Carlson.
