About

The package aiofiles is apparently not used here, so we consider it safe to remove it from the list of runtime dependencies. If it will be needed again, it can be re-added any time.

Observations

I checked if it would be implicitly optionally being used by whitenoise, for example, but haven't been able to discover it. Relevant adjustments to bring in aiofiles there did not land.

Using pipdeptree also did not reveal anything suspicious why aiofiles would be needed.

Apparently, it is not used.

Walkthrough

The changes involve the modification of the setup.py file for a Python package, specifically the removal of the dependency "aiofiles" from the list of required packages for installation. This change affects the installation requirements of the package while leaving the overall structure and other configurations of the setup script unchanged.

Changes

File Change Summary
setup.py Removed the dependency "aiofiles" from install_requires.

Poem

In the garden of code, where dependencies bloom,
A little change made room,
The "aiofiles" now takes its leave,
A lighter path for all who believe.
Hop along, dear friends, with joy in your heart,
For every tweak is a brand new start! 🐇✨

There are 3 ways to chat with CodeRabbit:

  • Review comments: Directly reply to a review comment made by CodeRabbit. Example:
    • I pushed a fix in commit <commit_id>, please review it.
    • Generate unit testing code for this file.
    • Open a follow-up GitHub issue for this discussion.
  • Files and specific lines of code (under the "Files changed" tab): Tag @coderabbitai in a new review comment at the desired location with your query. Examples:
    • @coderabbitai generate unit testing code for this file.
    • @coderabbitai modularize this function.
  • PR comments: Tag @coderabbitai in a new PR comment to ask questions about the PR branch. For the best results, please provide a very specific query, as very limited context is provided in this mode. Examples:
    • @coderabbitai gather interesting stats about this repository and render them as a table. Additionally, render a pie chart showing the language distribution in the codebase.
    • @coderabbitai read src/utils.ts and generate unit testing code.
    • @coderabbitai read the files in the src/scheduler package and generate a class diagram using mermaid and a README in the markdown format.
    • @coderabbitai help me debug CodeRabbit configuration file.

Note: Be mindful of the bot's finite context window. It's strongly recommended to break down tasks such as reading entire modules into smaller chunks. For a focused discussion, use review comments to chat about specific files and their changes, instead of using the PR comments.

On a related note, WhiteNoise has received little maintenance for the last 5 years.

It is suggested to consider switching to ServeStatic instead.

@amotl I would say the same thing I said about WhiteNoise for aiofiles.

  1. has a large, active community.
  2. It's still actively maintained; in fact, the last update was made 4 months ago.

It's also worth considering that some repositories are essentially complete, with minimal need for ongoing changes. Just because a repository hasn’t been updated recently doesn’t mean it’s unmaintained.

Hi @tabotkevin. Thanks for your response.

@Archmonger chimed in here about WhiteNoise vs. ServeStatic, and we diverted that to GH-562. Thanks a stack for adding your voice.

In this case, it is about removing aiofiles from the list of essential requirements for this project, because I haven't been able to discover it is used anywhere. So:

@amotl I think aiofiles can be removed without any hassle.
