This choice uses the formatting functions and syntax consistent with the rest of the repo. This syntax works just fine, but it will be phased out of Python in time and it isn't as featureful as the newer
format()function.In retrospect, I should have had my other pull request because this depends on the previous changes I've made to the
masterbranch.
