I never encountered this kind of issue on macOS (whatever the release). Unloading the kernel extension is not necessary on macOS 10.13, as it was on the previous versions. This point should be documented indeed. The very goal of PyFtdi is to avoid using D2XX - or anything from FTDI, so I'm kind of surprised it would now be required to install it :-) Maybe the issue you have encountered is due to a previous installation of a FTDI-issued library/kernel ext? |

I could not get the kextunload to work on macOS 10.14. The error "Error: Access denied (insufficient permissions)" still appeared.
After a lot of searching, I could manage to solve the problem by installing the FTDI helper. I think this would be a nice addition to the documentation, as others are facing the same issue (#114 -> I've also upgraded my Mac from previous macOS versions).
