Bay Area Community Resources Website

We are a volunteer-driven, open-source project to help communities navigate the COVID crisis by providing information on public resources. This project began as a Bay Area school meals map, and now provides information on resources such as locations and schedules for free meals, food assistance, legal assistance, and medical help.

Dev Quickstart

From the covid-19-support directory:

  • Run locally: npm run serve
  • Deploy to staging: env VUE_APP_DEPLOY="GITHUB" npm run build && npm run deploy
  • Deploy to production: npm run build && bash deploy_aws.sh

You can find the login credentials for AWS in the Google Drive. See the AWS docs for How to login

This project is

  • A mobile-first website with an interactive map and table of local resources.
  • A tool to help our communities and neighbors navigate the COVID crisis.
  • A data repository for other organizations in the Bay Area (more to come on this!)

The types of resource questions we want to answer

  • Where can I find a free meal?
  • Where can I find a market with senior/vulnerable shopping hours?
  • Where can I find a market that takes SNAP and WIC benefits?
  • Where can I get legal assistance for eviction?
  • Where can I find a free medical provider that offers telehealth services?

Authors

The project began with students and employees affiliated with Stanford's Data Impact Lab and Big Local News. We are extremely grateful to Bill Behrman, Sara Altman, and Cheryl Phillips for their ongoing support and advice.

The development for this project was adapted from NCCovid Support built by Code for Chapel Hill.

Special thanks to CARTO and Mapbox for powering our site.

Thank you to Melanie Ramirez and Jesus Pineda-Ramirez for inspiring us to do this.
