Removed support for legacy PHP features, in order to get rid of the warnings triggered by PHP compatibility checker tools.

setting.I tested each modified class, and they work fine after the changes. Of course, I would welcome some help in performing more testing, before merging the changes with the master branch (the more eyes on the code, the better). 😄
