Write your biography here. Tell the world about yourself. Link to your favorite [subreddit](http://reddit.com). You can put a picture in, too. The code is already in, just name your picture `prof_pic.jpg` and put it in the `img/` folder.

Put your address / P.O. box / other info right below your picture. You can also disable any of these elements by editing `profile` property of the YAML header of your `_pages/about.md`. Edit `_bibliography/papers.bib` and Jekyll will render your [publications page](/al-folio/publications/) automatically.
ChangeLing Lab is Carnegie Mellon University's only lab focused on understanding how languages change and how these patterns of change shape the way that languages are at any given point in time **from a computational perspective**. We are interested in phonetics, phonology, and morphology (whether diachronic or synchronic) and have a special concern for the use of language science to benefit people with disabilities.

Link to your social media connections, too. This theme is set up to use [Font Awesome icons](https://fontawesome.com/) and [Academicons](https://jpswalsh.github.io/academicons/), like the ones below. Add your Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Scholar, or just disable all of them.
ChangeLing is lead by (David R. Mortensen)[https://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dmortens/], an Assistant Research Professor in the Language Technologies Institute. It consists, additionally, of graduate students, former LTI students who still collaborate with David, and visitors.

If you are interested in joinging ChangeLing, please email David at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) with a CV and a description of what work you would like to do with us. Please take the following into account:

- We are only concerned with work that has some linguistic angle (either it uses linguistics or it is useful for linguists). Students who are concerned with machine learning for its own sake would be better served by another lab.
- We are interested in large language models, but only with respect to their language and linguistic reasoning capabilities. Our lab is not a good place to do general, engineering focused or primary research on LLMs.
