What Does This PR Do

Remaps the Farragus Medical asteroid and some of the surrounding area. Due to close intermingling, there were some changes to the cargo half of the asteroid to accommodate the changes south of the dividing line.

New and Improved Medical Bay

The medical bay of Farragus lacks multiple amenities and areas found on other stations, the functions of missing areas are blended together into the remaining ones in a way that causes frequent overcrowding and an overall feeling of being very cramped. The new medical bay addresses these concerns in the following ways:

  • Dedicated treatment areas for different applications
Instead of the lobby doors immediately leading into a "one room does everything" treatment area, a branching hallway leads staff and patients to the main treatment area, a dedicated cryogenics lab, two additional smaller treatment rooms (which can also be repurposed into emergency surgical suites during a crisis event), and a dedicated cloning laboratory. All of these areas break up the medical footprint into well defined zones that are easy to traverse in multiple directions.

  • Expanded medical storage
Primary medical storage has been expanded and equipped to BoxStation levels of kit, and the missing secondary medical storage has been added in, containing important but less used equipment such as spare plasma man suits, crutches, and the medical modsuits. A charger located in Primary storage allows the modsuits and any serving medical cyborgs to recharge on-location.

  • Improved CMO and Psych Offices
The CMO's office has been made a little bigger and given a more study desk, monkey cubes, a guest pass terminal, a complimentary pack of Robust Gold cigarettes, and new sleeping quarters (which their locker has been moved into). The psych office has been given additional floor space, fancy reinforced plasmaglass tables, and a far better seating arrangement that facilitates conversation between the psych and their patients whilst still retaining both eye contact and easy access to their computer records.

  • New Virology
The hallway area for virology is clearly marked and a window allows the virologist to overlook it, permitting face-to-face interaction without entering the room. The virologist now has access to boxes of replacement test subjects and a dedicated living space, as well as isolated atmospherics so they do not have to spread their pathogens to the crew (RP).

Improved Medical Maintenance

  • All the medical bats have been killed. Due to lack of predation, mice have moved in to replace them.
  • The area's theming has been improved with more visually distinct landmarks. Vents have been added to the area to assist with replenishment, controlled from a new medical maintenance/virology atmos checkpoint. The abandoned bar (one of many on Farragus) has been replaced with an abandoned hospital, featuring reception, general treatment zone, cryonics, an abandoned surgical area, and the Medistan flag. Some equipment remains and will be of use to travellers.
  • The medical/cargo escape pod now has a dedicated waiting area which makes it more obvious to people traversing the tunnels.
  • The disposals sorting area has been cleaned up, equipped with atmos sensors due to the abundance of space-facing windows, and the airlock given a better platform for embarking an disembarking from. The disposals loop has been pushed out to accommodate the expanded maintenance, and is overlooked by a new penguin room.
  • The cargo side the asteroid has been expanded slightly to catch the further-out disposals loop, the new area has manifested as a cargo cult chamber, complete with sacred figurines, toolboxes, and the Cargonia flag.
  • There is a new medical-engineering maintenance bridge accessible from the west medical/arrivals external airlock access (on the medical side of the bridge) to facilitate greater seamless skulking between maintenance zones.

Misc changes

  • Camera coverage in the medbay/arrivals bridge has been improved to fill in a gap, there is now a fire alarm on the bridge, and the random scaffolding inside the windows has been removed.
  • A fire alarm has been added to the engineering/medical bridge.
  • There is now a bathroom in the main medical asteroid hallway.
  • The Medical/Cargo SMES substation doors are now yellow to indicate an engineering checkpoint.
  • The medical/engineering external access areas are no longer atmos checkpoints. The areas are now accessible to anyone with basic maintenance access.

Why It's Good For The Game

To put it bluntly, the current medbay sucks, and this replacement should be a lot more pleasant to work in. Plus it adresses a lot of disparity between Farragus and other stations' medbays.

Improvements to maintenance are always good, especially as the current medical maint is very barren.

Testing

  • Verified proper AI camera coverage.
  • Ensured that non-maintenance areas are well-lit.
  • Checked access on doors.
  • Tested disposals network.

Declaration

  • I confirm that I either do not require pre-approval for this PR, or I have obtained such approval and have included a screenshot to demonstrate this below.

Changelog

🆑
tweak: Remapped the Farragus medical bay.
add: Engineering maint is now connected to medical maint on Farragus by a small maint bridge.
add: Fire alarms added to both medical space bridges.
fix: 2 x 3 tile blind spot on AI camera coverage in the Farragus arrivals/medical space bridge.

I feel like this crate is gonna get pushed around constantly since it's dangling out on its own, and in the way; would be nice if both crates could get their own little corner somewhere

Is these two tiles being blue an oversight or intended?

I'll see what I can do with the crates.

Is these two tiles being blue an oversight or intended?

Intentional, washing machine area in several places gets that colour for the machine tile and supporting tables). I can change it if you think it really clashes.

Not intended, will fix.
