Although the source of the HTML5 player has been replaced by the audio track as a whole, YouTube's script has already planned some requests for other parts (audio and video). In some cases using this extension generates even more traffic than not : the script is actually creating a new request to get the full audio track, which was not supposed to be requested and adds up to the rest.
In this pull request I managed to activate some request blocking for these useless parts that are being downloaded after the new source has been set.
Tested, it saves multiple megabytes!
