Background
I spent 3.5 years building tools for tinkers at Coda (I built out our custom templates platform and helped scale the Packs platform so that anyone can extend Coda's capabilities, maintaining an open-source SDK). I also conjure soulful speculations of new futures at verses, a collective of writers, researchers, and technologists co-imagining, practicing, and building a healthier cyberspace. I co-stewarded the creation of pluriverse.world and poems.verses.xyz. I also explore the poetics of software through net art like this pacman poem and my wall of windows.
Most of the work I do is open-source and/or a tool for empowering others to create things or express themselves because I believe in the power of computing to channel what matters to us.
Vision and Research Direction
Currently, I'm full-time researching, designing, prototyping, and writing about how we can advance an alternative future of computing rooted in communal agency.
I believe computing can become an everyday instrument for personal expression and communal flourishing and solidarity building. Towards that end, I practice a combination of design, code, poetry, and worldbuilding to create useful art, playful tools, and empowering infrastructure.
My current practice revolves around research into
- how to create tools for enabling homecooked software (the kind that a single family would use, or a group of friends, the sort that is easy to spin up in a night but may have some rough edges that get smoothed out over years of repetition.
- how to create tiny internets
- how to make modular, interoperable, community-owned networks of data
Some work that has emerged from this practice is
