I'm going to kick the tires on upgrading vagrant-chef-zero to 2.0 and replacing Ridley with https://github.com/sethvargo/chef-api to see how it behaves. Putting this issue in to reference for anyone interested in that progress.

Hey @mattray I have unlocked the version of Chef-Zero to >= 1.3 while I figure out compatibility issues. I have not thought about chef-api yet.

Despite how much I would like to reduce dependencies, need to have support for manipulating cookbooks in chef-api chef-boneyard/chef-api#6

I am excited about getting chef-api into this project to reduce dependencies, need support for cookbooks however.
