Earlier this week, Basecamp has announced a few changes to their corporate policy that have been met with a lot of backlash from the mob. And I thought that this could be a nice topic of discussion for this repository, since there's a lot of parallels with the RMS case.
In case you guys didn't know. Basecamp is the company behind Ruby on Rails, (obviously) Basecamp, a popular collaboration tool and Hey, a privacy focused email service. And they have been very vocal about how Apple regulates the App Store, meeting them in court and getting heard by the senate.
On Monday they announced that they would make a series of changes to their corporate policy. This has sparked controversy because they have banned political discussion from the internal communication tools, and replaced certain benefits with a raise.
The story gets really complicated if you dig deeper, there's mention of a "List of funny names" that was passed around the Basecamp office at some point which seems to have escalated into the policy changes because an employee reported the owners to HR for the fact that the list existed.
Here's the official statement from the owners (their blogs have more posts on the issue):

I hope you guys find this interesting to read / dig into and have some insightful comments to make.
