How to set Prometheus retention #2544

I deployed Kube-Prometheus in a Kubernetes cluster.
I see that the CRD prometheuses.monitoring.coreos.com has a retention field,

so I edited the resource k8s:

kubernetes edit prometheuses k8s -n monitoring

and set retention: 365d

Is this the right way to modify retention? How do I check if this has propagated correctly to Prometheus?
