When generating article variants for the first time, the mergeType is set to override (1) and cannot be changed. When opening the article again to generate more variants, the selected mergeType is merge (2), but can be changed if needed (usually merge is what the user wants). If, however, the article window is not closed between generating the variants for the first and second time, the mergeType selection stays disabled and in mode override.

We should send a PR with a fix, if we have time.
