Does update_collection to re-enable "indexing" of the vectors after bulk upload run in the background?

I have followed the recommendations in the documentation for bulk vector uploads. I have put the indexing threshold at zero during insertion and after I have run the updated collection command and set the indexing threshold at 20,000 the default value. However, this operation is very fast and I was initially getting timeouts when doing vector search and now it seems to work, but it's somewhat slow. I feel like the process is running in the background, but I have found no information about this. Is this the case?

It is indeed running in the background. Your collection (or instance) may be under high load while indexing is going on, which may cause some of the side effects you're mentioning.

Please see the collection status (color). It'll show green when done, and yellow if optimizations are still ongoing in the background.
