customizing interface

hi,

I am trying to customize the display and I would like the following:

• no text appearing during boot (only my splash image... couldn't get it to load so far)
• same at power off
• the when unit is on waiting for a connection I would rather have either the pi to go to sleep mode (if possible to wake up by connection of usb phone or by touch on screen) or if that is not possible display an image (but with a fully transparent menu interface so only my image is displayed.

are the above possible and how?
