Provide a version file with the artifact with a get so the version number of an artifact can be determined. This is especially necessary for snapshots where maven applies the timestamp and build number to the version and dependency pipelines as the version number is not known.
My specific use cases:
We are currently converting to maven from s3 for storing and retrieving snapshots. We use the version file provided by s3 to strip the version number from the jar file name to aid in deployment to server.
Marking deployments in New Relic with the version number.
