Shorten posts not working #2003

Shorten posts hasn't worked for me in months. I tried uninstalling & reinstalling, resetting the defaults, changing the settings. I've tried using different computers, clearing my cache. What am I missing?

Shorten Posts has not been updated for the new dashboard yet; see #1802
(however, Shorten Posts is vaguely being worked on - see #1972)
