A common feature in DNS forwarders is the ability to set a maximum and a minimum time for queries to stay in the cache.
Also, an option for set a TTL for negative answers would be very useful: let's suppose I configured zdns to do a persistent caching for 1 month. A negative response (NXDOMAIN) could be cached for 1 month if there is no option for setting a TTL for negative answers; if the site returns in some days, I will notice that the site is back only after 30 days as the cached negative answer would tell that.
