About ItemsView and other new controls

Thanks for the recent Community Call, it was interesting. As far as I understand, new controls will appear in the WinUI library soon, and they will be alternative to ListView and GridView. It would be great if they were free from the shortcomings of their predecessors:

• It's quite inconvenient to apply a custom template to selected item in older controls. You can use custom (and quite complex) TemplateSelector for this, or add a flag to the model to mark the selected item, but this task is always not as trivial as it is common.
• ListView and GridView do not provide item's index which is needed for alternation, various indicators and other tasks. For example, if you need to color the first five items in a list blue, it's not as easy as it sounds.
• ListView and GridView do not preserve SelectedItem when ItemsSource changes even if that item is in the new collection. Moreover, if there is TwoWay binding applied to SelectedItem, null will be assigned to view model property too, which is quite annoying because it could start a business logic related to that property.

And so on, these are just the first things that come to mind when I think about what could be improved in the ListView. I'm sure the community can remember and suggest many more things.
