The panel encountered a problem while loading

I'm using Gentoo Linux (I've asked the ebuild maintainer already) in a VM in gnome boxes with 3d acceleration enabled, 100gb space, 16gb ram and 8 cores.
openrc init, 23.0 desktop profile, "X wayland pulseaudio pipewire gles2" global use flags.
This configuration works fine for 1.28 mate-base so my issues are currently only on wayfire session. This is a fresh install of Gentoo and MATE 1.28.2.

The error:
The panel encountered a problem while loading "WnckletFactory::WorkspaceSwitcherApplet".

Workspace Switcher and Show Desktop are not supported in wayland at this time, and cannot be added to the panel in wayland but if you have configured the panel under x11 they may already be present. The error is harmless, close the popups, the panel will simply not load these two applets. You can remove them from the configuration from the popup or just click "don't reload" and get on with your work knowing they will still be in the panel for use in x11 sessions. In the future it should be possible to have a simple switcher (that does not show open windows) and show desktop applet in wayfire. You can already do these with keybindings, I just don't know how to tie these or the code they trigger into an applet's backend
