The current MSlice "Data Loading" window has a large panel showing files in the current working directory, filtered by types which MSlice can load. Often the file names are just the instrument prefix and run number, which is not very informative.
It would greatly improve user and instrument scientist productivity if additional information, such as sample temperature, magnetic fields, incident energy or other meta data can be included. Some of this information will be in the files themselves (if they are .nxs files) and some can be looked up from a catalogue (such as ONCAT at ORNL or the XML journals at ISIS).
Detailed description
TBD.
This issue is a placeholder - how it should be implemented and how the new metadata should be presented is still to be discussed by instrument scientists.
