Annoying menu movement on mintmenu 6.1.5

I installed Linux Mint 21 with mate on two laptops and noticed changed behavior of menu opened on LM button in bottom left corner if I use auto hide on bottom panel.

On 20.3, menu, once opened, would stay at the same place until I moved the mouse to the right menu column.

On 21, it moves down when bottom panels autohides and I move the mouse to the next menu item in the same menu column.
That leads to many wrongly selected menu items and frustration (because it moves down just when I intend to click)

Is there some setting I could change?
