The monero project are creating a c++ implementation of the i2p protocol, to use to hide their clients originating ip-adress. The same technology could be used for the communication between client and server for dark mail also, to further shield the user by hiding the clients ip adress from the server.
Kovri is about to get an alpha release soon, and then it should start to be integrated in to the monero daemon codebase. So this is not anything that should be done now, but when the monero project have released it stable it might be something for magma/volcano. https://github.com/monero-project/kovri
