Try M-x live-preview nonexistent. It gives the error:

Error running timer ‘live-preview-show’: (error "Output file descriptor of live-preview is closed")

The error comes from process-send-string. Since the shell cannot run the nonexistent command, it has already exited at the time process-send-string tries to write to it.
