Family owned, this restaurant makes all the breads, buns, pies, and bakery in house. They serve fresh baked toasted bread with the breakfast items, try the sourdough or rye. They give you a nice sized portion and they quick, not rushed. \nThe place is always busy which is a good sign in my opinion. Oakhouse's delights include breads, donuts, scones and specialties are loaded.\n\nThere are other bakeries at the market including Stella's.  Based on the crowds and the number of reviewers on Yelp, Stella's gets all the love.   However, based on my consumption of their breads and pastries while also comparing prices and customer service, Oakhouse backhands Stella's with a silicone pastry brush (granted, Stella's has the moistest and most flavorful cheese danishes in the area).\n \nI have always appreciated Oakhouse's efficiency and consistency.  They are very organized package bakery perfectly.  I never had anything smushed by being jammed in (like other places).  They rarely struggle with stocking or maintaining an attractive display.  I have never felt ignored or frustrated by cash handlers.  These are amazing accomplishments factoring in the madness of the CSFM.\n\nMy change your life recommendation is their Napoleon. It is the eclair's hotter sibling. Oakhouse's offering is a ginormous & gorgeous pile of puff pastry, vanilla cream and vanilla/chocolate glaze decadence. This place tries to recreate the maple bacon experience, but it seems to be the only doughnut that they decided to get creative about. I remember these doughnut shops were found in almost every city. A stroll through this little shop across the street from the University Medical Center, one does not need to crank their DeLorean flux capacitor to 1.21 gigawatts to go back in time to taste how donuts were made back in the day since the folks here have been making them the same way every day without infusing pop rocks into their custard or sprinkling green tea powder or ruining a perfect slice of bacon on top of their donuts.  These are the donuts that sat atop Starsky and Hutch's dashboard or within the nuclear power plant control room of Homer Simpson.  \n\nOld school donuts done correctly and beyond reasonably priced.  Not the subtle sweet/locally sourced ingredients/brioche dough, modern donuts that are all the rage, but the sinfully sweet unabashedly artificial variety that melts in your mouth due to the embarrassingly high sugar content  made fresh every morning perfect for dunking into a cup of cheap drip coffee.   Highlights are the airy french crullers, the impossibly crispy fritters (the blueberry variety is exceptional), as well as old favorites like the sour cream donut, buttermilk bar, and the enigmatic inverted cinnamon roll which contains a stroke/streak of genius/devil's food cake.  The folks behind the counter are extremely friendly and they open at the crack of dawn so you know they take great pride in starting every local Las Vegan's day off on the right foot.
