I am writing to report an issue I'm encountering while using PixelIMS to enable VoWiFi on my Pixel phone with a carrier that doesn't officially support it. While PixelIMS successfully enables VoWiFi, I'm experiencing problems with the fallback mechanism to the cellular network when my Wi-Fi connection becomes unstable or unavailable.
Problem Description:
When my Wi-Fi signal weakens or the internet connection drops, incoming calls are not automatically switched to the cellular network. Instead, the calls fail, and callers hear a message indicating that my number is unreachable. This means I miss calls when my Wi-Fi is unreliable, which is a significant inconvenience.
Phone Model: Pixel 7
Android Version: Android 15
Carrier: Jazz Pakistan
Steps to reproduce:
Enable VoWiFi using PixelIMS.
Make sure you are connected to a Wi-Fi network.
Simulate a weak or dropped Wi-Fi connection.
Have someone call your number.
Observe that the call fails instead of switching to the cellular network.
Expected Behavior:
Ideally, when the Wi-Fi connection becomes unreliable before an incoming call, the phone should seamlessly switch to the cellular network to establish the call, just as it would with official carrier support for VoWiFi.
Possible Causes (My Understanding):
I understand that the lack of official carrier configuration for VoWiFi on my carrier might be the root cause. This likely means that the necessary parameters for seamless network switching are not present or correctly configured when using PixelIMS. The IMS registration might not be as robust as with official support.
Request:
I would be extremely grateful if you could investigate this issue and provide any guidance or potential solutions. I understand that this might be a complex problem due to the nature of enabling VoWiFi on unsupported carriers. However, any insights or possible workarounds would be greatly appreciated.
Specifically, I'm wondering if there are any settings within PixelIMS or any other system modifications that could improve the fallback behavior.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I appreciate your work on PixelIMS and your support for the community.
