Pre-processing stops at "Connecting..." stage in console window

Do you get any error messages? Can you describe how does it stop working? Did it work before?

Thank you for responding. I have been using KH Coder for years. It is a key part of identifying verbs as part of my dissertation. I am updating some of my source data sets and it last worked maybe 6 weeks ago. I installed KH Coder on my wife’s Windows 7 machine, ran the 900K+ dataset, and it works there (7+ minutes). A short test dataset took 0.05. Both our machines are 64-bit, 4 cpu processors; mine is running Windows for 64 -bit. I don’ think her’s is. I recently updated Norton 360 to Norton 360 with life-lock basic protection (my wife’s computer has also been updated). I turned on the VPN option and then back off when KH Coder did not work. Then Windows Defender let me know it was going disable access to mysql (supposedly managed by Norton). I selected enabled private and public assess. I also tried to enable access directly in Norton. Thinking about that I disabled Norton for a test. Wiig 97, a 34K test file. Ran for over 5 minutes without results. There is some change in the amount of memory being used. OK, I understand that the situation is as follows.

1. Pre-processing of KH Coder won’t complete over 5 minutes with a 34K test file.
2. There are no error messages
3. You changed security configuration (Norton 360)

Can you provide a screenshot of the console window? On Windows, you can find the console window by clicking KH Coder icon in the task bar. The window has white texts on a black background.

Also, what happens if you delete current old version of KH Coder and install the latest version?

Yes to 1-3. Old version was deleted and KH Coder was reinstalled. Yes, pre-processing won’t complete. Will try the latest version, but I think I already did once. New version installed. Testing small file. I do not see the console on the task bar or in task manager, I ended msql task, now see in task manager. Still don’t see console on task bar. Found it by bringing it to the front in the task manager. End tasked KH Coder in task manager and restarted. Console shows up in task manager. Started prepressing: Could not find console again. Restarted and opened console before starting preprocessing

I have intermittent problems with this version of windows and MS Access 64-bit. System crashes irregularly. Sometime multiple times per day, sometime not in more than a week. I use Norton Utilities 16 to clean up the registry and that helps. Today when I went to restart the PC after my last message the system crashed and sent a message to Microsoft. I am not sure if it crashed on the restart command or when restarting. BTW, I use an SSD and have 8 MB of memory. Memory never seems to be a issue.

You can find the console window by CLICKING KH Coder icon in the task bar.

Would you run pre-processing, take a screenshot of the console, and paste it here?

"Connecting..." continues for more than several minutes?

If so, it means that KH Coder cannot connect to Stanford POS Tagger.

Stanford POS Tagger is a JAVA program. So you may have to "allow" JAVA. To do that, type "where java" in a command prompt window and hit Enter key. Then "allow" displayed java.exe.

By the way, MySQL seems just fine.

I tried. Did not seem to find Java so I went look of old versions first. Seem like Java was not on my computer today. Installed. Pre-processing and Excel generation work.
