I excided to try jsrepo in my private GitLab project, but registry isn't accesible from the project's repository. I set auth token with jsrepo auth command in format glpat-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX. (Also tried OAuth:glpat-XXXXXXXXXXXXXX).

Main project's jsrepo.json where I execute jsrepo cli commands.

Running npx jsrepo add utils --verbose from the main project and see an error that cannot be debugged easily.

jsrepo manifest wasn't edited manually, content was fully managed by jsrepo.
There is a part of config as a proof.

Please, help me with that problem.

It worked with main branch. Tags and custom branches don't work for some reason.
But I faced that package should be refactored to be compatible with jsrepo.

Sorry the way that the token is formatted in the docs is confusing ghpat is the prefix that is normally included when you create a token. You shouldn't add any prefix when adding your token.

Try just pasting the token directly from GitHub.

Also I think your formatting is wrong for the gitlab url. Try just copying the link for whatever branch you are on in gitlab you can look at the docs for valid urls as well.

The correct url format is:

When using private repos just paste the token as is.

Also would love to hear what your experience was refactoring for jsrepo and if there is any way it can be improved.

jsrepo is really meant to distribute your code but it needs it to be portable first. So in situations where the code hasn't been structured in that way it can be a struggle.

I’m looking for an alternative to npm packages that allows embedding entire libraries with source code into a project and managing their versions.

Yeah full disclosure this is not that. jsrepo is meant to be an easy way to distribute already portable code not something to replace npm by creating an entire package.

It is really effective for distributing components or smaller snippets of code but not meant to be used like npm where you just package the entire repo.
