Sync History from Sources #1569
Comments
When you are watching a video on TV are you watching it on official Youtube app or casting or something else? |
Not casting, I use smart tube. (Really nice app) |
I'm familiar, unfortunately Sync doesn't sync Youtube account history and implementing that feature is not planned yet. Grayjay is local first and saves your history locally but it can (if you enable it in Yt settings) provide Youtube on information that you watched. Sync feature syncs local history with other devices in your sync chain when you are on the same network. Hope that explains it a bit better. |
Why would you close it. Others would like it too I'm sure. Does the license allow one to fork this project and add it? |
Hey I would like it myself but the reason it is not planned yet (we might go in that direction in future) is that we are concerned that it could get user accounts banned from Youtube which makes it risky. Same as with commenting and liking on platform. However, there have been talks about this internally and considered testing it internally to see if our accounts would be banned or not but with current focus on Grayjay Desktop this was put aside, but not forgotten. You are free to fork the project and add it but there are some limitations which you can read here Issue is closed as not planned which I explained previously. |
Nice that you agree, and thanks for updating me on this. Could you keep this open then? Maybe label it as a possible futute item? The posting that the video has been watched from YT (from a different app) would be one of the things that would get you banned in that case but I think we're alright with that one. Could the sync system be used from the sources? |
Related to #180. |
Use Cases
If I watch a video on my TV, then come to grayjay, it's not in my history, I can't just continue watching or listen again (like a favourite streaming station).
Proposal
Have the sources sync the history, possibly using the new sync system? (Depending on how it was written)
