Any solutions for connecting iMac+MBP running on Catalina?

  • Bluetooth switch works (but I have to turn on/off the Apple keyboard so it shows up in bluetooth settings... Even though I save it, my MBP seems to delete the device for some reason?)
  • TDP only works after rebooting my iMac; any only manually with CMD+F2

I believe this issue is related to Catalina and TDM, which is not officially supported for the target machine.

Personally, I can only get TDM to work from the login screen on my Catalina iMac. This works equally well whether you've not logged-in since boot, or you've log out the current user, or by using Fast User Switching while remaining logged into your user account (tip: add the Fast User Switching icon to the menu bar from Login Options in the Users & Groups preference pane.

Of course this limits what you can have running in the background on the TDM iMac. iTunes, for instance, will not continue playing, as it did with fully compliant OSes, which permitted TDM while actively logged into a user account.

More to the point, though, you can't run VirtualKVM unless logged in [or can you..?] , so I appreciate that this clarification doesn't help solve the issue.
