Sometime in 2020 we lost the ability to offer access to the cluster to external researchers. Lars requested a fix back in February:

guest accounts do not get the attribute "uidNumber" set in our Microsoft
Active Directory. Without this attribute a user can't log in to our Red Hat
servers. In the past we have manually set this atribute for guests who
needed access. Unfortunately the new IDM system will regularly remove
manually set attributes. Today I have officially requested that
"uidNumber" be set for guest accounts. Since this is a minor change I am
hoping it will be accomplished quickly.

I asked for an update earlier this month and received this reply:

You have an active incident IM1036856 at the IAM team on it, it is
currently 'pending change'.

This is something we should follow up on before finally updating the documentation 81cad08 .

I received an update on this from IdM:

With regards to your question about granting functionroles to guests, it is not
possible,

The UID issues is a development activity, and it has been assigned a ticket in
our Påerations Development queue (board) and will be handled accordingly

This is supposedly possible now. I received an update on this from IdM today: "Rettelse er implementeret"
