Improve codecov by adding more unit tests

Help us add more unit tests for this package to increase the code coverage. You can look at recent codecov reports (from PRs or commits to main branch) to see what lines of code are not currently covered by any unit test, and add a new unit test that executes these lines.

Make sure all unit tests you add run very quickly (always use a tiny dataset)
