If a train is delayed and the expected time is later than a subsequent departure, is it possible to shift the delayed train down so the trains are in chronological order?

I'm sure it's possible - but I don't think that's how it works in actual stations (which would be what I would aim for). I vaguely recall that the train is held in it's original spot, which I guess makes sense when you think about it from the passenger point of view.
