Setting up and Running a Next.js Web App on Windows
1. Install Node.js and npm:
- Download the Node.js installer from https://nodejs.org/
- Run the installer and follow the installation instructions.
- After installation, open the Command Prompt and run the following commands to verify the installation:
node -v
npm -v
2. Clone the GitHub Repository:
- Open a Command Prompt and navigate to the directory where you want to clone the project.
- Run the following command to clone the repository:
git clone <repository_url>
- Replace <repository_url> with the actual URL of the GitHub repository.
3. Install Project Dependencies:
- Navigate to the cloned project directory using the Command Prompt:
cd <project_directory>
- Run the following command to install the project dependencies:
npm install
4. Configure Environment Variables (if needed):
- Some projects might require environment variables for configuration.
- Check if there's a `.env.example` file in the project directory.
- If it exists, rename it to `.env` and fill in the necessary values.
5. Run the Development Server:
- After installing dependencies, you can start the development server using the following command:
npm run dev
- The server will start, and you'll see output indicating that the app is running.
- Open your web browser and navigate to http://localhost:3000 to see the web app in action.
