Although still Linux, creating some bit bake recipes for Yocto may be of interest, especially when a cryptographic coprocessor is in the mix. Hardware companies could then include Ockam in their base images. |

I'd propose there are two facets to this answer:
A bonus question for consideration is whether there's any business model in supporting phones at some point in the future, but suspect that proving everything on Linux would be a great starting point. |

FreeBSD because of VNET jails. Also, TI-RTOS because of SimpleLink and they contribute to the development of OpenThread. |

We use OE/Yocto for most of our projects -- I think it is a good fit for IoT as you can customize the image to exactly what is needed and there is good support for most embedded SOCs.
