The reason for ubuntu in the logo is because although the kernel packages can be installed on any debian-based system, they are produced by ubuntu, built on and for ubuntu. And we're not downloading and installing kernels directly from kernel.org, we're downloading and installing Ubuntu .deb packages. So I wanted it to show that. It's probably not really right to incorporate Ubuntu's logo though, and likewise I wouldn't want just a Tux without also an Ubuntu, since this app is not Linux, it merely does something with Linux. So probably it should not have either Ubuntu or Tux on it. Maybe it can have intentionally muddied versions that just give the impression and are recognizable without being clear copies. But really, maybe best just not to have those at all the more I think about it. I'm less sure about the mini icons in the kernel list. Those are obviously 100% the other people's logos, a plain tux and a plain ubuntu, but in that case they are essentially labels for those things. It might be technically correct to replace those too, but I think it's less of a problem and one thing at a time. I really just want to do something about the main logo for now. |

The main logo (share/pixmaps/mainline.svg) is not original to ukuu. I can't track down where it originally came from but it seems to be either from some older versions of Synaptic, or possibly from Ubuntu and they used it for any package manager apps as part of a theme, or possibly it came from yet some other source originally. You can find many copies of it on-line in an image search, but they all look like copies and re-use also, not original.
I would like to either credit the original logo properly, or better yet make a new logo that isn't a copy of someone elses.
Can anyone help with that? Either tracking down the original source of the existing one, or drawing a new one? I had a kind of simple idea of an isometric view of a cube where it's all symmetric and one corner is right in the center, with an ubuntu logo on the left-front face and a tux on the right-front face (or swap those). That overall shape should still be recognizable when scaled down to 16px. The logos-within-a-logo is hokey but the cube itself would be too generic I think. But maybe the cube could be made distinct some other way. Even just a distinct color combo between the cube and the background maybe, or the colors of the faces. Or some totally different idea not based around a box. I don't know.
