Thank you for your work on this app! Even though I mostly stopped using taskwarrior at this point, Foreground was my favorite open-source to-do app that I tried. |

Hello all,
I have made the difficult decision to sunset Foreground. The app will no longer be downloadable from Google Play for new users, though this repository and the associated downloads will remain online for the foreseeable future.
There are a couple primary reasons for this change. First, I haven't had time in quite a while to work on the project; and second, Taskwarrior 3.0 was released and it would require a very large undertaking to make Foreground compatible.
Foreground is different from previous Taskwarrior clients for Android in that it doesn't embed a Taskwarrior binary but rather implements its own client and syncs tasks via the Taskwarrior 2.0 sync protocol, which was quite well-documented. Taskwarrior 3.0 has completely replaced the sync protocol with a new set of solutions. Making Foreground compatible would involve a substantial rewrite to the networking side of the app, and it would be even more complicated if we wanted to maintain compatibility with both Taskwarrior 2.X and 3.X.
As a result of these changes, I have decided to halt development on this project. If any developer reading this wants to pick the project back up, you're welcome as always to fork this repository. If any fork makes substantial progress, give me a ping and I'll happily link to it from the Foreground readme.
Thanks to everyone who used the app, contributed an idea or a bug report, or contributed code over the years. Thank you for your support and inspiration.
Sincerely,
Brendan Gregos
