Description:

I am currently working on my master's thesis, which focuses on the comparative analysis of tools capable of creating cyclic pangenomic graphs, particularly for mitochondrial genomes. Given the circular nature of mitochondrial genomes, support for cyclic pangenomic graphs is crucial for my research.

As of now, my options are severely limited, with vg being the only tool I'm aware of that supports this functionality. The inclusion of support for cyclic pangenomic graphs in your tool would not only fill a significant gap in the current ecosystem of variation graph tools but would also provide me with a valuable resource for my thesis work.

Benefits:

  • Fills a Gap: By implementing this feature, your tool would address a notable deficiency in the variation graph tool landscape, setting it apart from most other tools.
  • Enhanced Utility for Researchers: Support for cyclic pangenomic graphs would make your tool a valuable option for researchers working with circular genomes, such as those of mitochondria, potentially broadening your user base.
  • Contribution to Academic Research: This feature would directly contribute to my master's thesis research, allowing for a comprehensive comparison between your tool and vg, and enhancing the academic literature on pangenomic tools.

Potential Use Cases:

  • Comparative Genomics: Researchers could use your tool to compare mitochondrial genomes across different species or within populations, leveraging the cyclic nature of these genomes for more accurate representations.
  • Evolutionary Studies: Support for cyclic pangenomic graphs can facilitate studies on the evolution of mitochondrial DNA, offering insights into lineage tracing and genetic variations.

Conclusion:

The addition of support for cyclic pangenomic graphs would significantly enhance the capabilities of your tool, addressing a critical need for researchers like myself who work with circular genomes. I believe that this feature would not only benefit my ongoing thesis research but also contribute to the broader field of genomics by providing a much-needed tool for analyzing cyclic pangenomic graphs.

Thank you for considering this feature request. I am looking forward to potentially utilizing your tool in my research and contributing to its development through comparative analysis.
