AsyncAPI Hack & Conf 2021 - Conference tracks

Idea is to host online conference for 3 days -> 16-18 November

We need to agree on what kind of tracks we want to have:

• Is it one track or multi track?
• What are the topics? tools? use cases? spec?

Day 1 aka Contributors Summit proposal:

Except of intros, hackathon winners announcement.

My point of view is -> this is a community event and therefore it should be a platform for community to share their work:

• We should enable GSoC participants to present their work
• We should enable Hackathon winners to present their work
• We should enable maintainers to present their AsyncAPI tools
  These would be like 15min long presentations. 5 GSoC people, 3 hackathon + (lets say) 3 maintainers = 11 presenters = about 4h with breaks

Day 2 and 3 regular talks with priority on end user presentations - 1track imho but it highly depends on the amount of proposals we get and type of proposals

I dont know why, but ever since I heard about splitting documentation up into personas I thought about whether it would be possible for the conference as well?

This would of course split it out into a multi-track conference, and I am not sure if we are gonna have enough speakers for that? 🤔 Regardless, we could use some very broad terms such as:

• Developer focused
• Business focused
• General

yeah, let us see if we have a super large amount of talks we can do multi track. Otherwise we can set categories for talks, like tags, so people can see if track is for end user or maybe a developer and can pick only talks that are interesting for them.

Is the target to do it online like last year?

How have you seen the attention of participants in the last conference you have attended? Looks like people are getting tired of the live events and preferring to just watch some of those as recordings. Would that be the target? 3 days of full content is a lot unless half-days are being considered.

yes, the plan is to do it online, fully online and next year I'd love to do an in-person conference so the whole community can meet and talk. Offline conference requires more work though and I hope that by then more companies will involve with us full time and I get some support from others here.

Last year we did it in March/April, it was still the beginning of online events, people were engaged in Live Chat. What we learned though that we had too much content with too short breaks. Last year's event was very exhausting, so this is definitely something we need to avoid this year. I see it as just few talks a day really, with long breaks that people can use for discussions. Talks prerecorded, after conference released individually. You can join even only for one specific talk.

Day 1 would be something that others understand as a Contributor Summit with focus on contributors where we share projects and explain how to make first contribution and maintainers have time to explain their projects and onboard potential contributors.

Day 2&3 would be for AsyncAPI users, to learn from community on how they play with AsyncAPI. How this is organized in details depends on the proposals we get and accept

Hmm, yea I don't know what's optimal 🤷 I think you can view previous edits right, so if you update the post to be "the current plan", people can still see back in history, right? 🤔
