loading selected input after validation error

Hi I hope you can give me some insight about what I am doing wrong here.

I have a select element to which I load the options as follow

<select unicorn:model.defer="group" id="recipient">

            {% for id, option in group_options %}
                 <option value="{{ id }}"
                         {% if option == group.name %}
                         selected
                         {% endif %}

                 >{{ option }}</option>

            {% endfor %}
        </select>

If I submit my form and there are any errors, despite the selected being added to the correct option it doesn't populate the field.

My unicorn views is as follow:

       save
