Well, that's the purpose of homeassistant with an installed mqtt broker already - there is no real need for another device.

How does an additional device add security or energy efficiency or central control? At consumes more power and just adds another attack vector.

The multi-mode gateway 2 sold outside mainland China seems to support the Matter protocol. Why not use Matter?

You might consider the Xiaomi Gateway 3 or Miot Auto, as these two integrations have not been banned.

I believe the central gateway architecture solutions in mainland China are quite stable, and being able to connect to HA through a central gateway is a good thing. This integration requires adding an interface to the central gateway to support localized operation. I think adding local support to the multimodal gateway and refactoring the central architecture in Python would involve a very large amount of work. Xiaomi would find it challenging to adapt to all "sub-gateways," and it might bring new issues as well.

Additionally, I can see that the Xiaomi team has made every effort to adapt Wi-Fi devices for central-gateway-free localization.
