I noticed OpenAL is available. Not sure how difficult is would be to implement HRTF to make games more immersive.
Some ideas is to take geometry into account for sound bounces in the environment, example the UE5 revealed tech demo or the RAYA Quake 3 demo.
For an easier setup of audio environment one could create material audio properties to assign various sound files for different impacts, footsteps, damage, sound file swap at distances etc.
