im having an issue on the current version of the pack. just built my metal press and tackled the colossal task of building the components for a crusher.

since the output of the metal press is two rods for 1 steel ingot, i naturally used the machine to craft a couple of steel rods for steel fences, instead of using the more expensive entry level recipe of 3 steel for 4 rods in the crafting table.

to my disappointment, theyre not item dictionaried and the metal press rods dont craft into anything.

would be nice if you could fix that.

also, is there some way at all to get mushrooms before building up the forestry machine to make mycelium?

being able to make a rannuncarpus would massively help in early automation of the kiln. i dont think there is another block placer, is there?

Check nether fortress for red mushrooms, you can then throw them in mana pool to get infested seed

how can you get to a nether fortress when the nether is a void world aswell, and you dont have flight? maybe the quests should lead you a bit better through the pack in that regard. there wasnt even a point where the book suggested that we should go into the nether. i just did it at some point to see whats over there.

not everyone who plays the pack is going to know all the mods. especially with the heavily changed recipes and progression. its just coincidence that i knew botania has a block placer in form of a flower for example to be able to automate the kiln.

other mods like better than mods, evil craft, and mechanism are entirely new to me for example. and i never played much of astral sorcery, which is what drew me into the pack, since i like the style.

i also only later found out how to create cobble and sand generators by putting astral sorcery chalice with liquids close to each other.

either way, i prosponed the crusher because of the steel rod issue and hope theyre getting dictionaried with the other steel rods in the next update.

already built the forestry machine to produce mycelium, since its easier from where im at. shouldnt be difficult to crossbreed some crops that i already have for shrooms now. from there, it should be possible to automate the kiln, which is a huge pain in the ass, considering just how much iron and copper your need for the next quests.

imo there should be one or two quests dedicated to show people the tools to automate the kiln, so they dont have to actively stand there and craft stacks of iron one piece at a time.

awesomepixels says it’s intended, not a bug.

why? then disable the recipe, because you can make them, but there is absolutely no use for them.

why would you not make these rods compatible with the crafting recipes in the first place? its so counter intuitive that theyre not a valid component.

Maybe I was lucky my nether portal spawned on the roof of fortress.

By the way, I tried automating kiln using rannuncarpus. When you place bricks above stoked fire it forms kiln block, which is no longer brick block, I've placed piston and repeater to trigger the piston, when block gets placed by rannuncarpus on the block nearby

But the best was BWM block dispenser: you place it facing kiln, then you put block detector above kiln facing down, and put redstone dust on the block dispenser. Only way i found to get mossy cobble is surrounding blaze spawner with cobble, but you get it in moistener

i circumvented the problem by building a rudimentary second kiln and then tearing it down except for the brick blocks.

the multiblock needs a hibachi and running bellows to form (the flame has to turn blue once). but after it did, you can reclaim everything but the brick blocks and the kiln remains. i placed the rannuncarpus inside the "kiln", and dropped blocks on top of it. it automatically placed the blocks inside the real kiln nearby, where they get smelted and picked up by a hopperhock.

i used the better with mods detector block to get a redstone signal when a block is in a kiln to disable the hopper leading into an open crate near the rannuncarpus. the system dropped blocks too fast, so i also put a pressure plate below the open crate and made that disable the hopper aswell, when an item was sitting there to be placed by the rannuncarpus.

for redstone wiring, i used the immersive engineering redstone wire, so i dont have to deal with vanilla redstone, whcih is quite space consuming.

all in all, i could craft up a stack of iron ore, and just threw it into the hopper to get automatically processed, and the iron placed in a convenient output chest in front of the kiln.

by the way, i just tore everything down again. i got my smeltery ready and a mechanical squeezer to produce lava for me. i dont think i need the kiln to smelt blocks for me anymore. maybe charcoal? though coal is really easy to make. one of the first things i did was produce a large amount of lapis and throw it all on my pick for fortune 3.

from here i think its time to think about how to fully automate fired clay production to mass produce ores.

i found that gold is easily enough aquired from smelting down mob drops in a fired curcible.

by the way, if you really dont want to give us the cheaper recipe, then please add them to the smeltery and let us at least melt them down again.
