GSA Challenge TCG development Description and
VM setup instructions
for a windows machine
***************************************/
Summary: This project requires a development setup that quickly ramps coders into productivity. Therefore, we have a pre-configured VM that bootstraps developers. This VM stack is used used by all contributers and includes all technologies and testing utilities used for development, testing and deployment. The stack includes:
VM image - runnable by VMWare
Ubuntu 12.0.4
Node.js
Postgress
Express
Angular
JQuery
Bootstrap
Mocha
Karma
Winston
Google Analytics
SSH Keys
Git
Coding the project will organzied through typical stories documented in Redmine.tcg.com.
The following instructions step a developer through setting up their environment.
Estimated time: 35 minutes.
Software Requirements:
VM Player : http://www.vmware.com/products/player
decompresssion tool: http://www.7-zip.org/
The TCG VM: Request location from Butch
Setup Instuctions:
1. Download the gziped, TAR file
download = 20 minutes
2. gunzip and extract the tar file
gunzip = 10 minutes
tar -x = 4 minutes

run: chmod -R 777 workspace
EXIT from bash
7. cd to: workspace
run: git clone [email protected]:~/gsac
cd to: gsac
git checkout develop
8. Open your windows explorer and map a drive to this VM for software development:
on my computer, right mouse click and select "map network drive"
enter: \\[ip address of your VM]\code
9. back in the VM, fire up node (Note this will run on port 80)
cd: workspace/gsac
run: sudo node index.js
verify: open browser to http://[local IP of VM]/
10. Alter some code using windows and test locally using your own browser
(quick test is to alter gsac/public/index.html)
11. git commit and push
run: git config --global user.name "First Last"
run: git config --global user.mail me.last
